Your child deserves a strong and healthy smile, and it’s up to you to help them achieve that smile goal. However, that might be a tricky task if you’re not sure how to do so. Well, to help you know more about pediatric dentistry so you can help your child, Dr. Sukyoung Ahn and our dental team are happy to give you answers to frequently asked questions.
Question No. 1: When should I take my child into the dental office for the first time?
It’s recommended to take your child in for their first dental appointment around their first birthday or six months after their first tooth has erupted from the gums. During this appointment, you can ask your dentist questions and find out more about how to properly care for your child’s smile.
Question No. 2: How should I prepare my child for their first visit?
When your child is coming to our office, make sure you use positive words and tones. Using negative words and tones can make your child stressed and anxious, which can lead to them feeling uncomfortable in the dental chair. Our dental team will take good care of your child, so there is no reason to make your child worried.
Question No. 3: When should my child use “real” toothpaste?
You can introduce your child to toothpaste when they are about 2-3 years old. This is recommended because, by this age, they typically know how to spit. This is important because swallowing the paste can make your child sick to their stomach.
